CCTV PROJECTS
Waterloo Station - Network Rail
Automatic Ticket Gate Line CCTV Project - June 2008
Waterloo is one of London’s largest train stations totaling 20 platforms and is currently used by over 115 million people each year. The station provides train services to the South and South West of England and has direct subway connections to both Waterloo Underground Station and Waterloo East serving London and the South East.
The installation of the automatic ticket gates will help to reduce the number of people who travel without tickets and will improve the aesthetics of the station environment by providing a view of the platform area from the concourse which has been concealed for years.
The project also involved the construction of new retail accommodation and gate line staff accommodation, as well as improved security across the station.
The gates – the largest suite of public transport ticket gates in Europe and reputably the World.
The gate line is situated at the entrances to the mainline platforms and in the subway which connects the platforms with the London Underground station.
The installation of the ticket gates will help improve the overall passenger experience, in particular safety and movement around the station.
The ticket barrier project is estimated to take over 200,000 man hours of work and more than £20 million of investment.
